Puerto Banus

Puerto Banus

When looking back at old photographs from the late 1960´s of the Marbella coastline, it is astonishing to see the area that has now grown around what was then the brand new marina known as Puerto Banus.

World famous today, it was the inspiration of Jose Banus, a local property developer and close friend of General Franco, and was realised by architects Noldi Schreck, who was famed for his work in Beverly Hills, and the Mexican architect Marcos Sainz, whose work subsequent to the building of Puerto Banus has helped to shape much of the iconic architecture of the area of Marbella.

Today the Port of Banus stands as a representation of an Andalusian village, for which the architects can claim credit, having convinced Jose Banus to steer away from the typical commercial coastal skyscrapers of the 1970´s, and to create a marina that has proven to be a great asset to the province of Malaga.
